A house was what we wanted,
a place to fall asleep each night
in each other's arms
so that we would feel less alone.
Such was our desire for shelter that
we began to build a home,
letter by hand written letter,
brick by brick, on a foundation
that was not secure.
The house grew heavy with time,
and it sank into soft earth
that could not support it.
We looked around us and still felt the
warmth inside the walls,
still enjoyed protection from the elements -
but we knew it was not safe.
We felt ourselves settling deeper and deeper
into uncertain terrain.
So I left in search of firmer ground
while you sank.
a place to fall asleep each night
in each other's arms
so that we would feel less alone.
Such was our desire for shelter that
we began to build a home,
letter by hand written letter,
brick by brick, on a foundation
that was not secure.
The house grew heavy with time,
and it sank into soft earth

We looked around us and still felt the

still enjoyed protection from the elements -
but we knew it was not safe.

So I left in search of firmer ground
while you sank.
