We're nearing the end, you and I.
And I can't help but feel anxious.
For the past eleven years
You have been
the most dominant presence
in my life,
the one passion
that has never faltered.
For eleven years strong,
I have loved you,
hated you,
been frustrated with you.
For the last eleven years
you have motivated me,
brought me down,
confused and tormented me-
all the while making me stronger.
I have studied you as thoroughly as the
artist studies his craft,
as devoutly as the Christian studies her Bible-
but with greater intensity and deeper desire.
With time, I have come to understand your ways with great
conviction. In your presence now, I feel confident and wise,
experienced and well-versed in your art.
You have defined me since the beginning of our journey together,
and I am proud to admit it.
Although our interactions have not always been friendly or wholesome,
I will be devastated without you. Perhaps we will meet again some day,
but never in the same setting or context as in these eleven years.
So I thank you my dear companion, my most beloved hobby,
recipient of my undying passion.
I will give my all in our last hours together, do my best to perform, and to make you proud
of my development as a student of yours, your devoted apprentice.
Here's to you Volleyball.
